WordPress and A11y

Date: Saturday, July 15, 2017
Time: 10:00 - 10:45 am (EDT) (UTC-04:00)
Location: Room 1004
Format: Hands-on Workshop

Session description

Working in higher education, we have a duty to make sure that our web content is usable and accessible to everyone. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines give us a good place to start, but we need to take the time and effort to do things properly from the start. Accessibility is not something that can just be tacked on to a project at the very end, it needs to be built in at the foundation, and it needs to permeate all aspects of that project.

During this workshop:

  • We’ll begin by outlining why accessibility is important to everyone.
  • We’ll talk about what WordPress does well when it comes to accessibility.
  • We’ll take a look at some “low-hanging fruit” that we can all manage when working with our WordPress websites.
  • We’ll tackle a few of the more difficult and prevalent issues affecting accessibility on the web.
